candleThis is part of a series that I introduced last week on my blog article “Top reasons why authors don’t market their book.” I hear this all the time ” I don’t have time to market my book.” I have one question for authors who say they don’t have time to market their own book. Do you want to sell books? If you do, then you have to make the time to market your own book.

I think of the scripture Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Your book is your light, you need to put it on a stand (market it) and thus it gives light to everyone.

My model is that it only takes 30 minutes a day to make a drastic difference in your marketing efforts. Devote 30 minutes a day to something that relates to marketing. Here is a list of activities that you can do within 30 minutes. It may save time to do the same activities on the same day of the week so it’s easier to make it a habit.

  1. Schedule several posts on your Twitter account for the upcoming week.
  2. Schedule several posts on your Facebook page for the upcoming week.
  3. Browse through a group on LinkedIn or Facebook and make a helpful comment. (Building Relationships)
  4. Update your book marketing plan with all the things that you have accomplished during that week.

Come back and visit as I’m writing blogs weekly on why authors don’t market their book.
